The vexing question of how to deal with unchecked homeless along urban rivers is being faced by the California water district.:- On Friday, the Santa Clara Valley Water District sponsored the Unhoused People and Environment Summit for South Bay city, nonprofit, and county leaders.
The workshop sought to improve stakeholder collaboration on the homelessness crisis and its effects on local waterways.
The summit occurs just over a month before the district’s board meeting, where members will propose barring homeless people from most rivers, creeks, and streams.
This restriction was previously discussed in July but postponed to allow for further community participation and outreach.
On November 26, the Santa Clara Valley Water District board will discuss the issue. The meeting and continued debates will shape South Bay homelessness and environmental protection strategies.
