Why the Bay Area was fled by residents: Homelessness was 'just getting out of hand' - Slightly shortened.
People who used to live in the Bay Area say they found better quality and cheaper places to live outside of it. This is because homelessness and housing prices have gone through the roof there.
“It’s hard to live there because it’s the most expensive metro area in the country for housing and goods.” “A recent poll of Bay Area residents found that almost half said they were thinking about leaving in the next few years,” the East Bay Times said.
One family who moved from the Bay Area to Idaho said it had become hard to find a place to live “It was getting out of hand with the homeless in downtown Martinez,” Ken Freeze told the Times.Without any plans to move, Freeze and his wife bought several acres of land in Placerville, California, in 2005.
The Times said, “They chose to move from the foothills of the Sierra Nevada to the foothills of Idaho and to Meridian, a rapidly growing suburb of Boise.” They went there for the first time in August 2017 to see the total solar eclipse. The roads were in great shape, and the homes were very cheap.
The Freezes weren’t the only ones who liked the place, though.
“In the short time we’ve been here, areas that when we first moved here were just open fields are now apartment complexes and buildings,” Freeze told the Bay Area Times. “I’d just like to see them pull back the reins a little bit and let the infrastructure take a breath.”
The home market was tight for another couple in the Bay Area, but they saw deals in other places that were “too good to pass up.” They loved the house in Phoenix so much that they “now pay less for their mortgage than they did for their one-bedroom in San Bruno.”
“It had a pool, palm trees, and a view of the mountains,” the Times said. He joked, “Unless you’re Elon Musk, you can’t get all that in California anymore.” The South made a family from Oakland want to move because it felt like a “third-world country.”
She said, “I didn’t want to wait until things got even worse than they were.” “Living in Oakland was stressful every day and night,” she noted. This is what she said: “It’s so much better down here.” In the 1990s, Ezell Wallace ran a beauty salon. He had lived in Oakland for almost forty years. She said that downtown Oakland used to have good shops.
The other person said, “We could get anything we wanted really quickly.” She said, “I thought Oakland was one of the greatest places there was.”
